Biography
Alankara Dewage Vishwa Bharatha Manohansa is a Sri Lankan contemporary artist working across painting, sculpture, and mixed media. His practice explores abstraction, perception, and the relationship between organic form and human experience, treating material itself as a primary language of expression.
Raised within a household deeply immersed in the visual arts, Manohansa developed his artistic sensibility from an early age. That foundation has since matured into an independent voice defined by layered composition, gestural mark-making, and a willingness to move fluidly between representation and abstraction — allowing texture and form to carry meaning beyond narrative.
His sculptural work extends this inquiry into three dimensions, incorporating wood, metal, clay, paper, fabric, and found materials. Through carving, assemblage, and surface manipulation, he examines transformation, impermanence, and the interconnection between nature and human existence. Painting and sculpture inform one another throughout his practice, creating a continuous dialogue between two- and three-dimensional form.
Drawing on natural structures, memory, and emotional perception, Manohansa's compositions favor atmosphere and symbolic resonance over literal depiction. His visual language remains in constant evolution, shaped by ongoing experimentation across both traditional and unconventional media.
As an emerging voice in Sri Lankan contemporary art, Manohansa is committed to advancing its presence internationally — pursuing innovation and craftsmanship through exhibitions, collaborations, and cross-cultural engagement.
Artist Statement
I am A.D. Vishwa Bharatha Manohansa, raised within Sri Lanka's rich cultural landscape. Immersed from childhood in the studios of my father and grandfather, and shaped by the natural world around me, I developed an early affinity for organic form and creative exploration. My work continues that inheritance — an ongoing study of movement, nature, emotion, and human connection.
Working across painting, sculpture, and mixed media, I am drawn to art's ability to create presence, intimacy, and curiosity. Contemporary expression meets traditional and organic elements in my work, where texture, material, and symbolism shape the emotional weight of each piece.
As an emerging artist, I aim to build a body of work that resonates internationally and contributes meaningfully to contemporary art — work that leaves a lasting emotional and cultural imprint, not recognition alone. Through continuous experimentation, I seek to develop a distinctive artistic language, one that carries forward my heritage while expressing a vision entirely my own.
